The GSX-S1000 gives you 150bhp and 79lb-ft from an engine still based on the legendary K5 GSX-R1000 motor, reworked with new cams, valve springs, exhaust, airbox and injection. It is smooth, tractable and endlessly flexible. Owners describe pulling from 30 to 130mph in sixth without complaint, or working through the gears for genuinely rapid progress, and it sounds superb doing either.
The 2021 update brought a proper step up in equipment. Suzuki's SIRS suite adds five-stage traction control, three riding modes and ride-by-wire, with a standard bi-directional quickshifter that owners single out as one of the best features on the bike. Underneath sit fully adjustable 43mm inverted KYB forks, an adjustable rear shock and twin 310mm discs with Brembo four-piston radial calipers, giving handling that is sharp but stable and a ride that soaks up rough roads better than the more expensive super nakeds it competes with.
It is easy to live with too. The 19 litre tank gives close to 200 miles of range, owners report over 50mpg ridden sensibly, reliability scores a full five out of five and annual servicing runs around £250.
