This 2020 KTM 790 Duke is the bike KTM nicknamed "The Scalpel" — a middleweight naked that combines calm everyday practicality with genuinely wild playfulness, happy to be a commuter one day and a track tool the next.
The star is the LC8c engine, KTM's first parallel twin and still one of the best motors in the class. From just 799cc it produces 105 bhp and 64 lb-ft of torque, revving freely and pulling hard, yet it's as smooth and vibe-free as an inline four. Its 75-degree crank offset and 435-degree firing intervals give it a deep, gurgling V-twin-like growl, and off the throttle it spits and pops like a race bike.
The chassis is a tubular steel dual-backbone frame shrink-wrapped around the engine, and at just 169kg dry the Duke feels razor-sharp — it slices through tight twisties and holds its own on track, while staying stable, predictable and reassuring when you just want to ride to work. Braking is strong and consistent from twin 300mm discs with four-piston radial calipers, and the WP suspension is firm but bang-on for road and even track use.
This duke features an exhaust mod which although it looks stock sounds amazing, paddock stand bobbins, tail tidy, tinted screen, quad lock phone mount, belly pan, two keys with code card and service book with a full history comprising of five stamps.
