The 849cc V-twin Testastretta (Italian for "narrow head") liquid-cooled Desmodromic engine was created especially for the Ducati 848; it's not merely a scaled-down, less expensive version of the 1098's motor, The Ducati 848's engine produces a whopping 122 horsepower and 66 pound-feet of torque at the back wheel. Its power delivery is incredibly linear and smooth, as well as incredibly smooth.
